Atletico de Kolkata home ground Saltlake Stadium capacity has been reduced to 68,000 from its actual capacity of 120,000.
The inaugural season of the Indian Super League kicks off on Sunday at the Saltlake Stadium in Kolkata. Utsav Parekh, a co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata, told the reporters the capacity has been reduced to 68,000 from its actual capacity of 120,000 keeping in mind fans safety and comfort. Around 25,000-30,000 bucket seats have been installed in the Saltlake stadium. Temporary hospitality boxes and owners’ boxes have also been installed.
Utsav Parekh:” We want to give the fans an international experience. Bucket seats have been installed and the spectators won’t be cramped for space.
“It was a deliberate move to give enough elbow room to the spectators and also facilitate smooth passage during the breaks. That is why we have decided to lower the stadium capacity. We have refurbished 20 washrooms at the stadium and around 110 food and beverages stalls would be ready for the spectators.
“Everything will be in tune with the European leagues like bucket seats, locker rooms with jacuzzis and ice baths for players besides and hospitality boxes. During the course of the ISL, many international officials will come here and in due course, FIFA officials too. We want to showcase the venue to the world which will also be one of the venues for the U-17 World Cup.”
According to reports, half of the tickets have been sold and all the hospitality boxes have been sold out too. Atletico de Kolkata are also offering a 50% discount for school and college students. Atletico de Kolkata take on Mumbai City FC in the inaugural match of the Indian Super League tomorrow at the Saltlake stadium.
