It’s going to be a massive summer at Arsenal come the end of the season.
The Gunners are looking increasingly unlikely to qualify for the Champions League – something that hasn’t happened for 20 years.
To make matters worse, they will also finish below north London rivals Tottenham for the first time under Arsene Wenger.
Whilst we’re on the subject of Wenger, the Frenchman could leave the Emirates in the coming months with his current deal set to expire and he is yet to sign a new one.
But Wenger may not be the only big departure from Arsenal this summer.
Far from it, in fact.
That’s because the futures of star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are also in doubt. Both of their currents expire at the end of next season and the club will be desperate to tie them down to long-term deals in the hope that they don’t leave for a free the following summer.
But the biggest worry is, without doubt, Sanchez.
The Chilean has allowed his frustrations to show throughout this season and looks unlikely to sign any deal offered to him this summer.
And a report in the Mirror has revealed exactly why he’s so desperate to leave.
The report claims that the failure of Arsenal’s players to turn their talent into consistent performances has made him want to leave.
The main reason for him seeking a transfer is that he has “grown tired” of his teammates underperforming on match days, therefore believing that they don’t share his ambition and desire to win.
Sanchez’s mood certainly hasn’t been helped by the fact that Arsenal were humiliated 10-2 by Bayern Munich on aggregate in the Champions League, while they are 21 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
But Sanchez could be getting his hands on some silverware later this month as his Arsenal side take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Will an FA Cup triumph be enough to convince the forward to stay at the club? Only if his teammates play to their full ability, it seems.
