Real Madrid’s star defender Sergio Ramos will only join Premier League giants Manchester United if he plans to part ways with the Spanish side this summer, according to the club’s former President Ramon Calderon.
Calderon was quoted by the English media, “I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United. He only wants to go to United.”
Manchester United are believed to have placed an official first bid of £28.6m on 30th June. Real Madrid are yet to react on that offer. Calderon believes that the main reason why Ramos is planning to leave the club is because he was not treated properly. There is some confusion between the club and the player regarding contract extension. The Spanish international demanded a revised contract of £10 million a year while the club has offered him £7 million.
Calderon further opined: “Things are in a very bad situation,” he said. “As time has gone on, things have not only not improved, they have got worse.
“Now it is not a question of money. It is a lack of affection the player is feeling from Real Madrid.”
Real Madrid also are keen on a Manchester United player. They have been linked with the club’s star goalkeeper David De Gea since 2 months now. It was even speculated that it was just a matter of time that De Gea will become a Madrid player.
Regarding De Gea deal, Calderon said:
“They have contracts so they can’t say they won’t go unless they have a good reason, like an injury. It is like a game of poker, with David De Gea in the middle.”
