AS Roma forward Seydou Doumbia is expected to have a medical at Newcastle today, ahead of a potential six-month loan move, says Foot Merceto. As reported, the Ivory Coast player is in England along with his agent and a medical test is to be conducted on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Ivorian joined AS Roma from CSKA Moscow on last summer, after a highly-impressive stay at Russia. He scored 84 goals for the Russian team across all competitions over a span of four years. The best stat about the otherwise ‘mediocre’ goal tally is that he achieved this in just 129 games.
He joined AS Roma in 2014, but his career at Italy did not start as expected, and was sent back to CSKA Moscow on loan. IN his return to Russia, he flourished again and that has attracted Newcastle United who are desperate need for some attacking prowess in front of goal.
According to the reports, AS Roma and Newcastle has agreed for a six-month loan deal, with an option to buy at the end of the season. He has been short listed by Newcastle for a long time and this time, it is certain that the deal will be secured before the transfer window closes.
Seydou Doumbia has also featured thirty-three times for the Ivory Coast national team, but his form for the national squad is not as glittering as that for CSKA Moscow. He has scored only four times, despite making his international debut in 2008.
Marseille also tried to sign Doumbia, but a deal was cancelled due to disagreement regarding the fee for the Ivorian’s service. Newcastle are currently lingering in 18th position, two points below relegation line. They have only won five league games this season, and fans are expecting for a striker to fire them from relegation scramble. However, with 28 million pounds already spent, it is practical to think a loan deal is more probable.
