In a surprising goof up, Arsenal have snubbed Mathieu Debuchy by not including him on their website poll about replacing injured right-back Hector Bellerin. The Spaniard was injured during the London derby on 6 November and while it was initially expected that it was a minor injury, Arsene Wenger said that the 21-year old will remain on the sidelines for a month.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Wenger said:“Hector is out for about four weeks.”
“He was injured in the last 10 seconds against Spurs. A very strong tackle from Danny Rose,” he added.
Well, Wenger will now have to look for a replacement and there is no doubt that it won’t be Debuchy. The French international, who moved to Emirates from Newcastle United in 2014, has lost his place to Bellerin and has fallen out of favour at the club and things are still not looking good for him at least the snub during the poll indicates that.
The Gunner fans were given four choices- Carl Jenkinson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Gabriel and Francis Coquelin.
Not only that, Arsene Wenger’s answer, when asked about the replacement, is another strong indication that Debuchy’s career with the Gunners is as good as over.
When quizzed about his right-back options for Saturday’s trip to Manchester United, Wenger failed to mention the 31-year-old has a candidate for a game.
“We have players who have played plenty of games in the Premier League like [Carl] Jenkinson, “ he told Sky Sports.
“We could also play Gabriel, and [Francis] Coquelin has already played there.
“[Shkodran] Mustafi has played there, but I will not disturb a pair of centre-backs who works.
“I will keep what was strong before and try to a find good solution at right-back.”
With a match against Manchester United on Saturday, Arsenal have suffered some big injuries blow. Apart from Bellerin, midfielder Santi Cazorla is already ruled out of the clash while there is still no confirmation on Alexis Sanchez’s availability.
