Borussia Dortmund star defender Mats Hummels has handed an official transfer request to join the Bundesliga leaders, Bayern Munich. The Guardian claims that the move is expected to occur before the next season starts, with negotiations over a proper transfer sum will surely be finalised soon.
The Bayern chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed this week, that that the talks with Mats Hummels over a possible move in the summer had already started. The 27-year-old Germany international’s indications of leaving the Westfalenstadion this summer has been made crystal clear by an official statement from Dortmund on Thursday, however, his worth has not yet been decided by the club.
The official statement released by the club was:
“Defender Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund has communicated his desire to leave the club in the summer and wants to join the league rivals Bayern Munich next season,” read the statement on the club’s official website.
“Borussia Dortmund’s board has subsequently decided to make such a change depending on whether Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund can agree on a satisfactory fee. So far, Bayern Munich has not made an offer.”
“As a precaution, it is pointed out that with Mats Hummels – as at present with all other players from Borussia Dortmund – no exit clause has been agreed and the player is logically tied to Borussia Dortmund until 30 June 2017.”
The 27-year old has been a target for Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United for the past season, he could be the perfect solution for United’s defence. Thus, this news will surely come as a blow to all the clubs, who wanted Hummels, to sign for their club, obviously including Manchester United, who were leading the race. Dortmund will face Bayern Munich in the final of German Cup next month, and it will probably be Hummels’ last game for Die Borussen.
