Chelsea winger Pedro has admitted he was close to joining Barcelona in summer after a frustrating year at Stamford Bridge. However, the Spaniard has decided top stay put and is currently enjoying a great spell under new manager Antonio Conte.
The 29-year old has joined Chelsea last summer in a £21million deal from Barcelona but has failed to break into the first team under former manager Jose Mourinho who has not provided him proper playing time.
Pedro has admitted that he had held talks with Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu in the summer but has revealed it was difficult to return to a former club.
He told RAC1: “I talked with Bartomeu. But it was given more importance than the conversation merited.
“It is difficult to return somewhere, but you always have memories of a spell with a club.”
The 29-year old, who has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho as he was left behind the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Oscar, has rejuvenated his career under Antonio Conte.
He has started the rout against Manchester United this weekend when he opened the scoring in just 30 seconds into the game which saw Chelsea clinch the match comprehensively by 4-0 making it one of the worst Premier League defeats for the Red devils in their history.
The Spaniard is happy with his playing time as he is enjoying his spell under Conte and is looking to be a good asset for the team in the new system that Conte has been implementing in the recent weeks.
‘I am happy with the playing time I am getting now,’ Pedro said.
‘It is always good to play your part and help the team with goals whenever possible. I am feeling well physically.’
Pedro has scored his first goal for Chelsea in his 50th appearance for the club and will look to emulate similar performances over the next few weeks to seal his position in the starting lineup.
