Manchester United are reportedly all set to part away with Memphis Depay before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Dutch winger only joined the Red Devils from PSV last summer, arriving at Old Trafford with a reputation as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
However, new manager Jose Mourinho is now open to letting Depay go after a poor start to life in England the last term and increased competition for a first-team place this year.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the 22-year-old can leave if United receive an offer in the region of £26million – a similar amount to what they paid for him just a year ago.
The Holland international started last season in fine form, with a brace against Club Bruges in the Champions League suggesting former boss Louis van Gaal had got himself quite the player.
However, he ended the season with a poultry seven goals to his name – and found himself falling behind the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, and Anthony Martial in the pecking order.
Depay made a late cameo in United’s 3-1 opening clash at Bournemouth but faces a huge fight to show Old Trafford he can justify the £25million Van Gaal paid PSV for him a year ago.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is another big name signing by Louis van Gaal from last summer who is also on Mourinho’s hit-list this week.
United have had a successful summer in the transfer market signing Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Mourinho has previously spoken of his preference of having a squad of 20 outfield players plus three goalkeepers.
And a clear-out is already underway with Paddy McNair and Donald Love joining Sunderland permanently, Adnan Januzaj also moving to the Stadium of Light on loan and Guillermo Varela’s season-long loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
James Wilson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have joined Derby and Wolves on loan respectively while Tyler Blackett joined Reading on a three-year deal yesterday.
