Liverpool’s Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet wants his fellow Belgian international Christian Benteke at Anfield and admits he will have a word with the Aston Villa striker. Liverpool have already signed another Belgian international Divock Origi from Lille, who will join Liverpool this summer.
According to reports, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has a £32.5m release clause in his contract, and Liverpool have to meet the release clause if they are hoping to sign th Belgian international. It is reported Christian Benteke is Liverpool’s top priority in the summer and are expected to submit a bid after Aston Villa’s FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday.
Simon Mignolet: “I’m going to talk with Benteke about the Liverpool rumour.
“It would be fine to have three Belgians at the club.
“It’ll be a pleasure to welcome Divock to the club and the city.”
Mignolet also expressed his concerns after a disappointing season for the Reds as they finished sixth in the Barclays Premier League table, but he insists they will get better.
“At a club like Liverpool, you know the goalkeeper can get criticism,” he added. “All you can then do is keep working hard.
“I’ve played a good second half of the season, now I have to keep that going into next season.
“We’ve got to make sure we are together as a team when the new season starts.
“We must make a good start. We want to take Liverpool back to the top next season.”
