The most decorated manager in the history of British football, Sir Alex Ferguson gets a huge attention whenever he speaks.

During his 26-year spell in charge of the Red Devils, he won a huge number of trophies making the Old Trafford side the most successful club in England. He won 13 League titles, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 Champions League titles and many more trophies but he has stated that he had to achieve this monumental success with only four world class players during the long time.

Considering the huge list of stars who graced Old Trafford in Manchester United shirt, picking only four as world-class is shocking but the legendary Scot did that.

The former Manchester United manager only picked Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs, former midfielder Paul Scholes and French legendary forward Eric Cantona as the only four world class players who stood out from the rest.

“They made the difference and the evidence is there,” he told the BBC’s Football Focus.

He said that the four players reached the heights and became world beaters unlike other stars and they were the best players he had worked with.

“The younger breed like Ryan and Scholes were just fantastic players and the thing about those two was longevity,” he added.

“Are there players who have played right through the whole of the Premier League and performed at the level they have? There are none, absolutely none”.

“Of course Ronaldo was just a complete genius of a player.”

Omissions of players like Roy Keane, David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Nemanja Vidic, Gary Neville, Japp Stam and Wayne Rooney is a very much surprising thing.

And while Ferguson admits he worked with other “great players” – he believes the quartet mentioned have the edge.

“These players elevated themselves above that,” he said.

Ferguson also touted Eric Cantona as the “Catalyst” for the success of the club for a long time.

“When we brought him in we won the league that season – it was his mere presence and his ability to make and score goals,” he added.

The four players he mentioned are indeed world class and had all the qualities for success which they achieved personally and as a team, but the exclusion of some big names are indeed shocking.

The likes of Rooney and the others we mentioned gave it all for the club and Rooney is still doing that. World beaters like them being excluded from the list are surprising and fans might feel distressed with the news.

But as their biggest legend in history said this, there might not be any big controversy.

And another thing which can be concluded from this is that convincing the legendary manager is very difficult.

Famously, Sir Alex Ferguson also said that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard were also not world class players which created a lot of debates and controversies.

But as of now, Wayne Rooney is not world class according to his former manager.
