Manchester United have yet to make a signing this month. Jose Mourinho has been trimming his fringe players and despite wanting to keep Young is prepared to let him leave.

And Sky Sports reporter James Cooper says he is likely to stay but anything could happen later in the evening.

“It’s about sales not acquisitions for Manchester United in this window,” Cooper said.

“We’ve seen Schneiderlin and Depay depart for about £35m rising to around £40m.

“The issue today is around Ashley Young today. I think it’s highly unlikely that he will move.

“He’s got suitors in the Premier League, two or three clubs are looking at him.

“He has the experience, he’s a big popular player at United, he’s on a good contract and there’s also a little bit of interest from China.

“Anything is possible but the players are due to arrive at about 11am for training.”

No transfer deadline drama was expected at Manchester United, though Jose Mourinho hinted few days ago that there could yet be some movement at Old Trafford.

It was nothing particularly exciting; just that veteran winger Young was mentioned to be leaving on deadline day after five-and-a-half years of service.

But he looks set to stay at Old Trafford with Red Devils sources telling ESPN FC that the club are not anticipating any first-team incomings or outgoings today. Young earns £120,000-a-week at United and so has proved too expensive for potentially interested Premier League sides.

Young was heavily linked with a move to Everton, while Swansea and Watford also mentioned as potential suitors, he even had offer from China.

The versatile midfielder has only started five times for the Red Devils this season but Jose Mourinho does not want to further deplete his wide options this month.
