England international and Southampton’s No. 1 Forster is said to be a £20m target for the last season’s Premier League champions. With the Chelsea goalie Thibaut Courtois receiving many offers from Spain this summer, some of them are said to be a huge amount of sum for any goalkeeper. According to the DailyStar, the Premier League champions have already started looking for Courtois’s replacement. The Blues have Fraser on their radar and he is the favorite to replace the Belgian international.
Asked yesterday if the Saints would offer a new contract to Forster, the Southampton boss Ronald Koeman replied: “That’s a possibility yes. Fraser is one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Fraser’s current contract ends in 2018 and he has been in outstanding form since his return from a long-term knee injury in January.
“We will try to keep our squad together but we know our situation and we know we can’t win against the big teams with a lot of money.” said the Saints boss.
When asked about his plans for the summer transfer window, Koeman said: “For sure there is more interest in our players”, he will face a tough fight to retain his key players for the third summer in a row. Manchester United are highly linked with the forward Sadio Mane and on the other hand, Victor Wanyama who was behind their brilliant defensive display last season is wanted by Arsenal. Other players like Virgil van Dijk, Jordy Clasie and Graziano Pelle are drawing attention from various clubs around Europe.
“That’s a good thing our players have ambition. Everybody wants to play at the highest level.
“We know the players are doing well, they are improving and of course big teams look to other teams to see what players they have.
“But we will do everything we can to keep the players in.” said the Saints boss.
