English Premier League was never as unpredictable as it has become this year. The 2014-15 season had plenty of ups as well as downs; several players left their mark after showing some mind blowing performances and while others couldn’t perform as well as their counterparts. As we are coming to t to the end of 2014, here is Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
GK: Joe Hart (Manchester City)
It was a tough decision to choose between Lukasz Fabianski(8 clean sheets), David De Gea(5 clean sheets) and Joe Hart (7 clean sheets). But the England international’s consistency and brilliant reflexes helped Manchester City to win the last season and maintain the same form in the current season as the are just 3 points behind the League leaders Chelsea. As a result, Hart make it to Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
DEF: John Terry (Chelsea)
John Terry has been showing superb skills in the back and is one of the major reasons for Chelsea’s best defensive record this season in the Premier League. The veteran defender despite of growing age has been doing best to keep the attackers away from the goal. And therefore is included in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
DEF: Leighton Baines (Everton)
Leighton is currently amongst the best left backs in the world and has been performing outstandingly for Everton in the current season. Baines is a versatile player and usually goes up and down in the field. The 30 year old has though struggled in the recent games but still make it to the Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
DEF: Jose Fonte (Southampton)
The 2014/15 season will be remembered by Southampton fans forever. The saints had a wonderful start in the seasons beginning and managed to retain their position in the top 5 of the Premier League. One of the main players who contributed in the achievements of Saints this season is Jose Fonte. The centre back kept the defence tight and didn’t allow any opposition attacker to get much and due to his awesome performances the 31 year old is included in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
DEF: Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)
Pablo Zabaleta is the definition what can be defined as dependable and is also one of the best in his position. Pablo played an important part in City’s title win last season and the full back is undoubtedly one of the best in the world. Zabaleta has impressed the fans once again by performing superbly this season also and is included in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
MF: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Steven Gerrard is one of the most valuable players of Premier League. The Liverpool legend has set benchmark performances in the 16 years he has played at Anfield. Gerrard had a wonderful year and scored 13 goals while holding the midfield of the Reds. The England International was also instrumental in Liverpool’s success last season which saw them coming runner up but his heroics no doubt are worth including him in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
MF: Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Eden Hazard with his amazing performance is one of the best players of Chelsea and has contributed a lot to the clubs success this season. The Belgian international has shown consistent form this year and was always creating chances by showing dust to the opposing defenders. The 23 year old is one of the best young talents in the football world and has proved it this year by scoring 12 goals in 2014. Hazard with his brilliant skills has been one of the best midfielder this season and this also includes him in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
MF: Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
The Ivorian international inspired Manchester City to win the title last season when Liverpool was bound to win it. Yaya is one of the key players in Manchester City line-up and has shown world class performances in moving the midfield ahead. The former Barcelona player has always come to the rescue of the team and also scored against West Brom in the last fixture. The 31 year old power machine with his remarkable precision in midfield joins the Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
MF: Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
The 2014 European Golden Boy, Raheem Sterling has been an outstanding performer for Brandon Rogers’s side this season who have struggled to maintain the same form as last year. Sterling was not only able to perform under the shadow of Luis Suarez last season but also proved that he was worth the Golden Boy award after showing mind boggling performances this season. The Golden Boy Award winner is one of the best young talents in the English Premier League. And at the age of 20 the Englishmen is the youngest player in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
ATT: Wilfried Bony (Swansea)
The Ivory Coast international is the leading scorer of the English Premier League in the calendar year of 2014. Bony joined Swansea in 2013 for £12million from Sparta Prague and since then has been proving his worth by scoring more than anyone in 2014. With 20 goals in 2014 and that too after playing with Swansea, the 26 year old is undoubtedly on of the best forward in English Premier League and therefore makes it to the Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
ATT: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
Sergio Aguero is the leading top scorer of the current season and the second top scorer in the calendar year of 2014.Aguero has been a star performer for City this year, deteriorating the opposition defence with his creative vision and lethal skills. The 25 year old has scored 18 goals in 23 appearances for City and is one of the best strikers of English Premier League this season, and has been enlisted in Sportzwiki’s EPL XI of 2014.
