After a title winning season, Chelsea have faltered to impress in this season and are languishing in the bottom half of the table. Star winger Pedro who came to Chelsea on a 21 million transfer this summer has expressed his disappointment to a friend according to reports.
A source close to the Spaniard said that the winger regrets the move from Barcelona to the EPL in the summer. Pedro has not been able to show his class for the Blues this season and will be hoping to improve on his form as the season goes on.
It is also believed Cesc Fabregas who made a move to the club from Barcelona in 2014 had a huge role to play in Pedro’s move to Chelsea. The good rapport the duo shared at Camp Nou has not been seen at Chelsea partially because of the decline in form of the mid-fielder.
Though Pedro started his career at Chelsea with a brace against he Baggies, an injury hampered his progress and he has not looked comfortable ever since. He was persuaded to move to Chelsea by Cesc Fabregas,” a source close to Pedro told Football Inside.
“But he now regrets doing so.”
“Pedro believes the team’s playing style is too functional and does not play to his strengths. He did not think the attacking players were given enough freedom under Jose Mourinho. That might change under Guus Hiddink but it is too early to tell,” the source added.
Speaking to the Mirror earlier in October, Pedro admitted that he will take time to adjust to the challenges of the Premier League and that it was difficult to adapt to the style of football in England.
“It’s hard. It’s very different to what I’m used to [at Barcelona],” Pedro told the Mirror. “But, little by little, I’m integrating more, adapting with my team-mates and the team and that’s the most important thing.”
“Everything is different, very different to the football I’m used to. I think there are a lot of differences, very physical football, very strong. A lot of players attack and it’s always complicated. All the games are competitive and very balanced,” he added.
The Spaniard has just 3 goals and 3 assist for Chelsea this season and has to drastically improve on his returns. He has now found a consistent place in the squad and will have to prove himself quickly to save Chelsea’s season.
