Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard arrived in Los Angeles ahead of his MLS debut for LA Galaxy. The former England captain played his last game for Liverpool last month, and then took a holiday in Dubai and Ibiza. Gerrard was welcomed by a group of Liverpool supporters in the LAX airport where he arrived with his wife Alex Curran.

Gerrard is expected to make his debut on July 11 when LA Galaxy take on Club America. He will settle in a £16.8million Malibu mansion stateside. The 35-year-old is LA Galaxy’s third Designated player alongside Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Germany U21 international Emre Can is the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard.

He said: “Yeah, I think Can’s a very capable player, wherever he plays.

“But you just feel with him, the further up the pitch he goes – another 15, 20 yards – I think he can have more effect on the team. The ball- playing and creativity.

“At right-sided centre-back, he saw a pass because you’ve got a bit more time and you’d hope he’d still be able to see that pass 15 yards further forward.

“Maybe Emre Can was their best player in the back three [last season].”
