Liverpool will anxiously wait for the results of scan to find out the extent of Steven Gerrard’s hamstring injury which could threaten their skipper to miss 3 weeks of action. Gerrard came off in the second half of Tuesday’s victory over Tottenham when he complained of tightness in his legs.
Post the Spurs win, Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe told the media as to why Gerrard came off during the match. Pascoe said:
“Unfortunately he felt his hamstring towards the end of the game and he is having a scan this morning and we are just waiting for results to come back,”
Liverpool’s medical staff is growingly concerned about the scan results, as it is widely believed that Gerrard’s injury will keep me out of the game for at least 3 weeks. The manner in which Gerrard lipmed off on the 68th minute of the Spurs game, gave an idea that injury will be a bad one for him to deal with.
During those 3 weeks, Gerrard will miss weekend’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Crystal Palace, as well as both legs of Europa League knockout round games against Besiktas and perhaps more crucial of them all, league games against Southamton and Manchester City.
Liverpool will hope Gerrard can somehow shake off his injury and at least be available for the crunch league games which will have a huge say in Liverpool’seventual leagueposition this season. The Reds have been playing very well in recent weeks and have shown signs of their last season form which earned Brendan Rodgers’ side some rave reviews.
Steven Gerrard would want to guide his side to a Champions League finish in his final season with the club. Both Southampton and Manchester City are in the battle for Top 4 this season and any slip-up for Liverpool might end their hopes of finishing in the top 4 this season. Despite winning against Spurs, Liverpool are currently ranked 7th in the league.
In Gerrard’s absence Emre Can will drop in the midfield who has been playing as a center half in recent weeks and has been a revelation for Brendan Rdogers’ side, who conceeded their 1st goal in over 415 minutes in league football against Tottenham. Lucas Silva is another injury concern for Liverpool who is facing a month long absence from the game.
