Stoke City 1-1 Manchester United: Twitter Goes Wild As Wayne Rooney’s Late Goal Salvage Draw For Red Devils!
Jan 21, 2017 at 11:07 PM
A last-gasp equaliser from Wayne Rooney helped Manchester United earn a 1-1 draw against Stoke City and extend their unbeaten run to 17 matches in all competitions.
The Potters took the lead in the 19th minute when Juan Mata diverted an Erik Pieters cross past his own goalkeeper. Jose Mourinho’s men consistently built dangerous attacks but were not getting the equaliser. They were finally rewarded for their perseverance in the stoppage time when Wayne Rooney scored from a free kick. Joe Allen, who had scored the equaliser when both the teams had met previously in the league, fouled Marcus Rashford right on the edge and Rooney made no mistake in sending the ball past Stoke goalkeeper. In the process, the United skipper also became the all-time top-scorer of the Red Devils, surpassing the legendary Bobby Charlton;s 249-goals mark.
Meanwhile, the stalemate will be a huge blow to United’s hopes of a top four finish. They are now three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal and 11 off leaders Chelsea, who both play on Sunday.
Let us see how the Twitterati reacted to the match:
Still baffled by anyone who questions Wayne Rooney's quality. Does this goal push him a bit closer to #EFC?

Impressive way to bring the record up from Wayne Rooney. Not entirely surprising that his goal came from a dead ball. #STKMUN

Wasteful from Manchester United as they continue to slip up and drop points when their rivals do the same. One step forward, two steps back.
