Chelsea’s domestic season has gone from bad to worse with their 3-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend. But they will be happy to have taken all three points from their Champions League group stage fixture against Kyiv on Wednesday. Jose Mourinho’s side were still not at their best but the victory will give the manager something to build on and revive their league position.
Stoke City on the other hand held Newcastle to a 0-0 draw at the St James Park and will hope they can get a similar result from this game. Here is the Preview of the game along with the Team news, Expected Line-ups and Predictions.
The Stoke City vs Chelsea game will be played on Saturday the 7th of November at the Britannia Stadium. The kick-odd is scheduled at 4:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST).
Stoke City will welcome back three of their injured players to the squad for this game against the Blues. The only two injury concerns for Mark Hughes are the injuries to Marc Muniesa and Shay Given who will not be able to take part on Saturday.
Thibaut Courtious, Radamel Falcao and Ivanovic will all miss out on this trip to Stoke due to various injuries. Pedro came back into the squad in the mid-week fixture and will be available for Jose Mourinho in this away game.
Stoke City have had their own problems of not being able to score and are place 14th in the Barclays Premier League table with 13 points, two more than their opponents on Saturday. Chelsea are at the 15th spot with just 11 points and will be desperate for all three points from this game.
But traditionally, The Britannia Stadium has never been an easy place to travel to and will make Jose Mourinho’s side work hard for any kind of result. Even in the 2-1 victory against Kyiv, Chelsea lacked any kind of conviction and will need to step up their game if they want to stay in contention for a European spot for the next season.
Mark Hughes will know that the Blues are under tremendous pressure and that he can get a result out of the game. He has some talented players at his disposal and will hope that his team can upset the Champions of last season.
Shaqiri and Arnautovic have shown enough promise in the past few games and a Chelse defense that has looked far from their best in the recent weeks will surely be stretched by the pace and the skill of the Stoke City front line. It will be interesting to watch how Chelse deal with that at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday
Butland, Johnson, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, Adam, Whelan, Shaqiri, Krkic, Arnautovic, Walters.
Begovic, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Terry, Cahill; Matic, Ramires; Pedro, Oscar, Willian; Costa.
Chelsea need to do a lot of work at both ends of the field. They have players who can produce the goods but are low on confidence at the moment. The win at the mid-week may have given them the lift they needed but Stoke City will surely prove a tough nut to crack in their own back-yard.
Stoke City 2-2 Chelsea
Stoke City: 3/1
