Often its skill, talent and flair that wins you games in the La Liga but then viewers receive a timely check reminding them of victories solely down to organisation, defensive resilience and a sheer stubbornness to throw away a lead. Granda hung on to their 16th minute opener from Yacine Brahimi to snatch a priceless and memorable victory against the mighty Barcelona.

Dominating possession has never been an issue for the Catalans and against Granada they comfortably controlled the ball and the game for the most of it yet came home with nothing to show for it. For all of Barca’s attacking flair and quality it was one attack, one lapse in concentrations that cost them the game.

16 minutes into the game, a beautiful long ball by Fran Rico towards the channel Brahimi ran. The tall powerful striker beat full-back Martin Montoya for sheer pace before comfortably slotting it past a hapless Jose Manuel Pinto.

Wave after wave of Barca attack followed but to no avail as the Granada defence stood tall and strong against the superstars from Catalunya. Goal keeper Orestis Karnezis probably had the busiest 90 minutes of his career as he withstood thwarts to his goal from the likes of Neymar, Messi, Fabregas and even Montoya in succession for 90 minutes.

The victory for Granada, well deserved. The defeat for Barcelona, probably sums up their under-achieving season. Slipping further behind in the title race following a disappointing outing mid-week that saw them crash out of the Champions League times are tough for manager Tata Martino, will he be given the time to make amends ? Nobody knows.
