Sunderland 0-1 Chelsea: Twitter Reacts As Chelsea Go Six Points Clear At The Top
Dec 15, 2016 at 11:51 AM
A first half goal from Cesc Fabregas was enough for Chelsea to see off Sunderland as the Blues consolidated their top spot in the Premier League table.
After Arsenal’s loss against Everton on Tuesday night, Antonio Conte’s men needed a victory to open a six-points lead at the top and they duly obliged with another dodgy performance. The Blues struggled to make clear-cut chances in the absence of Eden Hazard but did not face any problem defensively as Sunderland were happy to sit back and stop the Chelsea forwards. The visitors finally found the breakthrough when Fabregas steered into the far corner in the 40th minute to score his first league goal this term.
Adnan Januzaj, who performed well throughout, threatened to equalise just after the break but was denied by a fine save from Thibaut Courtois. The Blues soon regained their rhythm but failed to make it count. Willian was denied by the crossbar while Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante were denied by the Sunderland goalie. Chelsea were almost punished for missing those chances but Courtois made a world-class save to deny Patrick van Aanholt in the injury time.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:
These 10 victories in a row equals Chelsea’s best sequence of league wins contained within a single season. #SUNCHE

For a measure of how good Kante is again tonight he won a header at 5ft 6in against Kirchhoff (6ft 5in) to begin the move for Fabregas' goal

Absolutely crucial Sunderland are defeated soundly. Can’t have clubs succeeding with 7 at the back or it’ll spread across the league.

Thibaut Courtois doesn't care about camera saves. Does his job with a straight face unlike De Gea.
