Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has claimed that the Portuguese superstar’s release clause for Real Madrid is €1bn and has also revealed that he has stopped receiving calls from potential suitors for his client.

“I no longer get calls from anyone asking about Cristiano. It’s not worth them calling to ask for it. The price is that stated in his release clause – €1bn [£785m].”

The Ballon d’or winner was rumoured to be unhappy at Real and former club Manchester United were thought to be interested in signing the player at the end of the current season.

The 29-year-old has started off the present campaign in remarkable fashions scoring three hat tricks already and notching up 17 goals in all competitions.

Mendes claims that Ronaldo plans to retire at the Bernabéu as he said, “We will never see a player like Ronaldo.”

“It is true he is getting better and will continue to improve until he is 40 as he has no limits. Besides being the best footballer in history, he is the greatest athlete of all time. There will be no one like him in the next 500 years.”
