Surprise Package: Premier League’s Best Performing Forwards This Season So Far
Nov 11, 2016 at 4:20 PM
With an international break once again bringing the domestic season to a halt, now seems a perfect time to assess how things are going in the Premier League.
Liverpool are top of the table, two points clear of second-placed Chelsea, while Arsenal and Manchester City make up the rest of the top four.
Tottenham Hotspur sit in in fifth and Manchester United are sixth, eight points behind the league leaders.
At the other end of the table, Sunderland are bottom with just one win to their name, while Swansea City and Hull City make up the rest of the bottom three.
To say it has been exciting thus far would be an understatement, with 306 goals already scored, around 2.7 per game.
That has been largely down to the quality of the forwards now playing in the Premier League, so who have been the best so far?
To make things fair, the players we looked at have all played at least half of the games to date.
Players | Team | Shots Per Game |
Zlatan Ibrahimovic | Manchester United | 5.36 |
Sergio Aguero | Manchester City | 4.89 |
Christian Benteke | Liverpool | 3.44 |
Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic tops the shots per game ratio with a score 5.3, ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke.
It is the City man who is top for shots on target per game, though, with a score of 2.1 just ahead of the Swede’s tally of two.
Middlesbrough’s Christhian Stuani has the best shooting accuracy in the division with a tally of 60%, his nearest competitor is Stoke’s Bojan on 33%.
Players | Team | Key Passes Per Game |
Roberto Firmino | Liverpool | 2.9 |
Alexis Sanchez | Arsenal | 2.18 |
Romelu Lukaku | Everton | 1.9 |
The most creative forward has been Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino as the Brazilian has posted more accurate passes and more key passes than anyone else so far.
He fails to get on top when it comes to passing accuracy, though, with Wayne Rooney surprisingly topping that chart with a score of 87%.
Last, but certainly not least, it is Chelsea’s Diego Costa who tops the goal-scoring charts with nine to his name, just ahead of Aguero on eight and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku on seven.
