Days after the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the Unions of European Football Association (UEFA) released the list of ten names who have a chance of getting the UEFA Player of the year award. The award is annually handed out to the best footballer who play his club football in Europe. The Ten players will go for an initial polling to pick the top three nominees for whom the final phase of polling will be conducted on August 28 in Monaco, the venue for the URFA Champions League draw.

The Jury constitutes journalists from each UEFA member associations. The ten footballers includes three footballers from the 2014 FIFA World Cup winning German side in the form of their skipper Phillip Lahm, Golden Glove winner Manuel Neuer and Germany’s leading goal scorer in the tournament Thomas Muller apart from trio’s Bayern Munich teammate Arjen Robben.

The list also contains UEFA Champions league winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria, World Cup’s Player of the tournament and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, EPL’s player of the season Luis Suarez, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa and World Cup’s Golden boot winner James Rodriguez.

Out of these ten footballers, Angel di Maria looks the favourite to succeed Bayern Munich’s French winger Franck Ribery as the winner of the award.
