It is the transfer deadline day in Spain and the La Liga clubs have geared up fully to complete their last moments signings to bolster their squads. The Spanish giants Real Madrid has been linked with a move for Liverpool left full-back Alberto Moreno according Italian media Tuttomercatoweb.
Alberto Moreno joined the Reds last summer from Sevilla and became a regular starter at the club. He perfectly suited Brendan Rodgers plans as the manager played a 3-4-1-2 formation. Moreno mostly played as a left wing-back at the side. Brendan Rodgers this season bought English teenager Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic and the player’s impressive show during the pre-seaosn has prompted the manager to field Gomez as the left-back leaving Moreno to the bench. So far the Spanish defender has been used sporadically in this season.
Real Madrid released out of favour left-back Fabio Coentrao on loan to AS Monaco this summer. After Coentrao’s departure, the team have just Marcelo in the position. So it is understood that Rafael Benitez is all set to raid his former club to fill the void in the squad.
The 23-year-old left-back has a great pace which is beneficial to any team in the world. His overlapping abilities have often been utilised by Rodgers who has fielded him in the left wing position. His defensive abilities, as well as overlapping qualities, could prove lethal to Real Madrid. Moreno is a perfect cover for Marcelo who too has similar qualities.
Although, the move might happen as Brendan Rodgers still as Jose Enrique as a cover in the squad but is believed a huge fee would be asked from the Merseyside in order to sell one of their prized possessions.
It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can actually wrap up such a move on the deadline day.
