Chelsea has been known to be active in the winter transfer window in recent times, owing to either their needs, or maybe, because they have had a lot of Russian money left to spend! And as the record books go, this season seems to hold the same story. It’s true that, Jose Mourinho has had a blinder of a summer transfer window, riding high on the handsome profit he received for David Luiz, coupled with impressive additions in all positions of the squad. Yet, it doesn’t look like the mid season transfer window will be dormant one for the Londoners.

Sportz Wiki focuses on the couple of players Chelsea may be tempted to go after in January

The prime target for the London Club will be Marco Reus, with Jose Mourinho being a vocal admirer of the German Winger from Borossia Dortmund. Reus is close to the end of his contract, and has so far, resisted contract renewal talks with his parent club, thereby attracting the attention of the European Elites. The prolific winger has been more of a revelation in Germany, with dazzling displays over the last few seasons. The German has been equally adept in both central attacking as well as left wing roles with an innate eye for goal creating as well as scoring. With Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Arsenal interested in Reus, Mourinho will be eager to use his financial muscle to jump early into the hunt, and acquire the services of the 25 year old German. And with Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly interested in fellow German Andre Schurrle, who has fallen down the Chelsea pecking order, a swap deal is very much on the cards.

With Diego Costa having to deal with long term hamstring problems, Loic Remy in and out of the side with injuries, Didier Drogba not up to Premier League speed and Chelsea still having to compete in multiple competitions, Jose Mourinho must be anxious over the probability of an injury in the busy winter schedule. And the anxiety may as well lead to securing the services of Croatian hot shot Andrej Kramaric in January. Reports in Croatia suggest, a deal with Croatian side, Rejika is close to completion with the London club having to shell out 8 million euros for the Croatian. The youth product of Dinamo Zagreb, Kramaric has been in good form having scored 27 goals in as many matches in Croatia. Although the striker is due to come from a lesser known league, his relatively low fee, good international showings and reported interests from many clubs across Europe definitely weigh heavy in favor of the 23 year old. Maybe it’s a shrewd piece of business waiting to happen.

Raphael Varane is another player who has been openly admired by Mourinho ever since his unceremonial reign at Real Madrid. The Portuguese labeled the youngster as the best young defender and the world and with the Frenchman unsettled in the Spanish capital, Chelsea could make an offer for him in January. Varane would relish the prospect at playing in the Premier League and with John Terry set to hang his boots soon, a move to Stamford Bridge would be yet another shrewd acquisition for the Blues/
