Top 10 longest serving players in the Premier League this season

The English Premier League is not only one of the most popular and competitive domestic leagues in the Europe, but is also one of the oldest leagues formed. It has, over the years produced some outstanding players who have served their respective clubs for decades together. This is the essence of the whole league which has established itself as one of the best in the world. The amount of experience in almost every team in the league speaks volumes about the quality of the league. So let’s take a look at the longest serving players currently active in the Premier League:

John Terry (Chelsea; 1998):

The 35-year old former England international just renewed his contract to stay at his boyhood club for another year. John Terry is the pride of the Stamford Bridge outfit as he came through their ranks and managed to write his name in the history of not just the club but also the country. He is the most experienced player still going strong in the Premier League and judging by the start he had to the new season, he may well be an important part of the club for another year.

Wayne-Rooney

Wayne Rooney (Manchester United; 2004):

The club captain for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United is actually the longest serving player for the Red Devils for some time now. He moved to Old Trafford from Everton back in 2004 and has since made huge impact on the squad winning almost every possible trophy with the Red of Manchester in his years at the club. He is still one of the first names on the squad for United in crunch ties and is an inspiration to many.

Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace; 2004):

The Selhurst Park shot-stopper who has stuck with his side through rain and shine is the longest serving goal keeper in the Premier League. He moved to Palace from Dundee United more than a decade ago and has so far made 359 appearances for the club in his time. The 37-eyar old is also the first choice keeper for Palace this year and will hope to have a decent time in front of goal this season.

Mark Noble (West Ham United; 2005):

One of the most unluckiest domestic players for England, Mark Noble is arguably one of the most experienced defenders in English football. He started his career with the Hammers as a kid and has ever since made 318 appearances for the club scoring 38 goals and helping his side to some of the best moments in the history of the club. He has played for the country at every level until U-21 but has not been able to find a place in the national squad inspite of his heroics with the club in recent times.

Theo Walcott (Arsenal; 2006):

The pacey winger is a product of the Newbury academy but made a name for himself only in his stint at the St Marys. His performances there as a teenager earned him a place in the Arsenal squad 10 years ago and he has ever since been an integral part of the plans from Arsene Wenger. He has 55 goals to his name in 236 appearances and will play a huge role in Arsenal’s search for glory this season.

Joe Hart (Manchester City; 2006):

The longest serving player for Pep Guardiola’s new adventure is their shot stopper Joe Hart. The 29-year old has been England and Manchester City’s undisputed number one for a while now but has been unsettled since the arrival of the new manager. He has been at the club since his move from Shrewsbury back in 2006 and has made 266 appearances for the club making him one of the best shot-stoppers in the country.

Phil Jagielka (Everton; 2007):

The Blue of Merseyside have a lot of quality players who have been at the club for quite a while now. But the longest serving player for the Toffees is their ever reliable defender Phil Jagielka. The 34-year old moved to Everton after 7 fruitful years at Sheffield United and has ever since made 265 appearances for the Blues scoring 10 goals and providing loads of mettle to the Everton back line.

Andy King (Leicester City; 2007):

The longest serving player for the Champions of England, is one of the many star performers in their squad in the title winning season in Andy King. The Welsh international started his career at Stamford Bridge but failed to make it to the senior side only to be shipped off to the King Power where he established himself as one of the best. He has scored 53 goals in 297 appearances for the Foxes and had a huge role in their title winning dream of a season

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool; 2007):

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has lost some of their best players in the last few season, none more missed than their son Steven Gerrard. After his departure, the mantle of the most experienced player in the squad was taken up by Brazilian international Lucas Leiva  who moved to the club in 2007 from Gremio. He has made more than 200 appearances for the Reds but is slightly out of favor under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer.

Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur; 2007):

Mauricio Pochettino has done an incredible job building a team full of youngsters who are responsible enough to hold on to results. And their most experienced player, going into the next season is their left back Danny Rose. The England international who moved to Tottenham back in 2007 from Leeds United spent 4 years on loan away from the club but has now established himself as the first choice in Pochettino’s squad this season.
