With the January transfer market fast approaching, we take a look at Chelsea’s transfer targets. The Blues are currently the leaders of the Premier League, and also have done exceedingly well in the Champions League. While they possess squad depth in terms of quality and quantity, the London side look to be in search of an attacker and a defensive minded midfielder. Here are five players who we think could be soon seen in a Blue shirt.
1. Andrej Kramaric
23 year old striker Kramaric has netted 21 times in 19 league appearances for Rijeka in the HNL. Furthermore, the Croatia internationals exploits in the Europa League haven’t gone unnoticed, where he has scored 5 goals this season. If reports are to be believed, the deal has already struck between the two clubs, and the former Dinamo Zagreb star could sign for the Stamford Bridge side for as less as £7.5m. If Chelsea sign Kramaric for a significant low fee as mentioned above, Mourinho’s side might have pulled a coup by roping in a proven goalscorer.
2. Marco Reus
The West Londoners have also been linked to Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus. The £20 million clause in the German international’s clause which can be activated in 2015 has alerted his potential suitors; Chelsea being one of them, and are ready to lure him in the winter transfer market itself. With the Blues possessing depth in the attacking third, a move for Reus makes no sense. But with the future of Mohamed Salah in jeopardy, and the Blues willing to offer Andre Schurrle in a deal to bring Reus to the Stamford Bridge, Mourinho would no doubt love to have the Dortmund man in his roster.
3. Sami Khedira
One player who’s future at Real Madrid has come under scrutiny in recent months is Sami Khedira. The German has become a bit part player after returning from his long injury lay-off, and could be on the move sooner rather than later. The former Hamburg has fallen down in the pecking order due to the summer arrival of Toni Kroos & James Rodriguez, and the imminent signing of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro could worsen things for him. Jose Mourinho is a well known admirer of Khedira who worked together at Real Madrid, and could sign the midfielder.
4. Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets could be another option which Mourinho might consider to bolster his midfield options. The Barcelona midfielder has apparently stalled on penning a new contract with the Catalans, alerting Chelsea. West London could be the ideal destination for the Spaniard if he is on the move, with former team mate and current Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas likely to convince the La Masia youth product.
5. Giannelli Imbula
A lesser known commodity out of the aforementioned four above, Imbula’s performances in the Ligue 1 with leaders Marseille haven’t gone unnoticed. The 22 year old box-to-box midfielder joined the Stade Velodrome side in 2013, and has been a revelation since then. The Belgium born midfielder reportedly rejected a move to Chelsea before joining Marseille, but the Blues could again be in the market for the coveted star.
