After a dream run in the 2013-14 season, Liverpool lost Suarez to Barcelona and failed to replicate the form in the next season. They also missed their main striker Daniel Sturridge to injury most of the season and ended at the 6th spot in the Premier League table after a poor end to the season. However, the owners of the club have restored their faith in the Brendan Rodgers the manager and have given him one more season to get the club back on track.
In this article we will take a look at the strengths and weaknesses that the club needs to take care of before starting their new season. We have also included the round up of transfers that the club is involved in the present transfer window.
The Kop saw their team play with a lot of energy in the midst of last season which was started with the brilliance of Phillipe Coutinho who looked a class apart. With Milner and Firminio coming in this summer, Liverpool’s midfield looks stable with Lallana, Can and Markovic along with Ibe providing plenty of options for the manager.
With many players vying for few spots in the starting eleven, the likes of Lucas and Allen will provide plenty of competition to the new players which will help bring the best out of them. The club failed to create chances last season and scored just 52 goals but with the new buys this window, Liverpool look a stronger team then in the previous season.
The biggest problem for Liverpool last season was in front of goal. The lost their top two scorers from previous season in Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling and will need the new set of players to step up to the challenge and give the club enough fire power to outscore opponents in all the games they play.
Their defense was also a bit shaky after the mid season charge and the last game away to Stoke emphasized the need of better defensive strategies. Skrtel, Sakho and Lovren with Toure will fight for the CB position and will have to improve vastly on their performance if they want any chance at success this season.
Transfer Round up:
The club has been busy this season and has bought in Milner, Ings, Firminio, Gomez, Clyne into their ranks and have added a lot of depth to their squad. They have also signed Adam Bogdan to provide competition to Simon Mignolet between the posts. They are all set to announce the transfer of Benteke and are linked with Pedo from Barcelona and Mario Gotze from Bayern Munchen.
However, they lost their club legend Steven Gerrard who moved on to the MLS league in America and their priced possession in Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for a huge sum. Glenn Johnson has also left the club but they have already got his replacement in Clyne. They still have a lot of players to off load and will use a very strong team in the 2015-16 season.
Though Liverpool has not been successful over the past few years, it still remains one of the most respected clubs in the world and if they can get the balance of the team right next season, they will surely compete with the best in the league.
