Spurs have reportedly made Loic Remy from their rivals, Chelsea, a priority over the winter window as they look to bring in striking reinforcements for Harry Kane, something they failed to address in the summer window. They currently only have Kane as their recognised striker and Son who is actually a winger to sometimes deputise for the England international.
Remy, who is 29, is frustrated with lack of opportunities and injuries with the Blues was looking to leave in the summer window too as Chelsea had brought in Falcao which had upset the French striker. With any deal failing to materialize, he stayed and since then has had negligible action due to Mourinho’s persistence with Costa over the season.
This comes at roughly a couple of weeks after Hiddink reassured the fans that Remy (and Fabregas) will be staying at the club.
A transfer is hence logical but Chelsea and Tottenham go back a long way in transfer dealings as Tottenham had infuriated Chelsea bosses with their refusal to sell Modric even as they later sold him to Real Madrid for a lower price. The revenge was achieved with the signing of Willian under Mourinho even after he had a medical with the Spurs in the week past.
This rivalry added with Daniel Levy poised to act as a roadblock in the negotiations make the deal almost impossible. The only reason Spurs might try is because of Pochettino’s insistence which might open the window for Chelsea to gain leverage in the negotiations.
With Spurs high up the table and a direct contender to Chelsea for the Champion’s league places, it remains to be seen If Chelsea would entertain the possibility to strengthen them with the lethal striker who has been impressive whenever given the chance. His last goal came against Stoke City in the League Cup, it remains to be seen if it is the last goal Remy scores in the Blue of Chelsea.
