Arsenal F.C., who won their first trophy in 9 years barely a month ago has the habit of making the headlines during the transfer windows every time. This trend is not because they sign a Galactico every time but for the rumours they create during the window, selling their own big names and for the interest they show in some players who will end up in their rival team.
This has been the trend for Arsenal in the past few years. The Club Manager Arsene Wenger has the knack of signing players during the dying hours of transfer windows. It is very evident by the fact that he signed five players in the last two days of the 2011 summer transfer window. He also repeated the same when he signed Mesut Ozil during the eleventh hour of the 2013 window.
Throughout the window, there would be a cluster of transfer rumours coming out from the club. It was said that Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuain who was set to leave Real Madrid at the end of last season was linked to join the Gunners.
There were even rumours that Higuain has completed his medical at the Emirates Stadium and it is just a matter of minutes that there will a official confirmation from the club. Unfortunately for the fans, Higuain ended up joining the Italian Serie A side Napoli. This has been the story of Arsenal and its fans during the transfer window over the last few years.
This time around, the club has expressed its desire to sign some World Class players especially a striker. Arsenal’s wish list consists of players like Spanish skipper Iker Casillas, former Gunners Cesc Fabregas, Carlos Vela, Italian forward Mario Balotelli and the list goes on. The list is so long that a playing XI along with substitutes can be formed with the players who are rumoured to have link with the North London club.
They had sold their second choice Goalie Luckaz Fabianski to Swansea and released Emiliano Viviano after his loan period got over. So they are looking for Real Madrid legend Casillas and Cardiff’s David Marshall.
Their right back Bacary Sagna is said to have left the club for Manchester City and the FA Cup champions are in touch with Spanish Juanfran and Ivory Coast’s Serge Aurier. Apart from them, they are looking for some centre backs as well.
The main objective for Arsenal in this window is to sign a proper forward. So they have several options up their sleeves. Balotelli, Barca duo of Alexis Sanchez and Pedro, Brazillian Hulk, French duo of Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann, Spanish youngster Alvaro Morata and their former player Carlos Vela.
The playing XI featuring the players rumoured to have linked with Arsenal: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid, Captain), Serge Aurier (Toulouse), Ashley Williams (Swansea), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Juanfran (Atletico Madrid), Pedro (Barcelona), Damian Martinez (Sheffield Wednesday), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona), Angel di Maria (Real Madrid), Hulk (Zenit st. Petersburg), Mario Balotelli (AC Milan).
Substitutes: David Marshall (Cardiff City), Jackson Martinez (Porto), Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton), Calum Chambers (Southampton), Antoine Griezmann (Real Sociedad), Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid), Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona)
