Turkish playmaker Arda Turan recently made snide remarks regarding English franchise Arsenal that will not make the Gunners happy.
The 29-year old moved to Barcelona last summer after a superb stint with rivals Atletico Madrid and has already gelled into the Catalan squad with minimal fuzz.
He made his debut only in January after Barca’s transfer ban was lifted and has ever since been used an impact substitute in important games for the club.
However, in a recent interview, Turan opened up about his move to Barcelona and revealed that if he was not able to impress Luis Enrique at Camp Now, he would have ended up at Arsenal.
Talking to Diari Ara, the 29-year explained that it is a dream come true and that he always knew that he was good enough for Barcelona.
He also revealed that his style of play suited the game at Camp Now and said that he is happy with the role he has in the current team.
‘In all honesty, I used to think, “If I play very well I will end up signing for Barca because my style fits into this team.
”If I play well, I will end up at Arsenal,” he added.
Turan has not cemented a starting place in Barca’s squad but his aggression and ability in possession of the ball will surely fit into Barca’s style and the 29-year old acknowledged it in the interview.
Turan was all praises for his team-mate Lionel Messi and went on to say that he is an intelligent player that has the complete skill set for a footballer.
‘Everything about him is incredible, he is so quick to do everything, controlling, dribbling, he goes for it,’ Turan added.
‘But his greatest trait is his tactical intelligence. It is amazing, better than all else. He is a very intelligent footballer.
He went on to reveal that playing alongside Lionel Messi was one of the perks of his move and revealed that it was not the only reason he made the switch to Camp Now.
He said that he wants to win trophies and added that Barcelona was the best place to fulfill his dreams.
‘Is Messi’s presence worth signing for? No. I am here to win the Champions League. Leo, for me, is the greatest player in history but I am here to win titles,” he added.
It will be interesting to see if Turan can get to start for Barcelona on a consistent basis, something he would have done at Arsenal.
