Arsenal went down 1-2 against Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb last night in the first of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Gunners played extremely poor and Olivier Giroud’s red card in the first half itself added to the Premier League giants’ troubles. They conceded an early goal in the first half. The red card of Olivier Giroud piled up the misery on Arsenal.

Dinamo Zagreb scored a second goal which potentially sealed the game for the Croatian side. Theo Walcott scored a late goal for the away side which was sort of a consolation goal for Arsenal.

Here are the player ratings of Arsenal players:

David Ospina – 2/5

David Ospina replaced Petr Cech under the bar for this Champions League tie but failed to match up to the star’s level. The Colombian was sloppy at times and conceded a cheeky first goal. Overall Ospina debut this season did not go well as Arsenal conceded twice.

Mathieu Debuchy – 3/5

The Frenchman replaced Hector Bellerin in the lineup and did a commendable job. After Giroud’s red card through Debuchy was forced to track back and strengthen the defense.

Laurent Koscielny – 2/5

Laurent Koscielny was not up to the mark and Arsenal suffered due to his off-form.

Gabriel Paulista – 2.5/5

Paulista did a fair job on the pitch which somewhat kept Arsenal backline at bay.

Kieran Gibbs – 1.5/5

The English full-back was poor on the pitch and his defensive flaws invited trouble many a times.

Mikel Arteta – .5/5

The club captain appeared for Arsenal for the first time this season and did a terrible job. He was replaced at half-time.

Santi Cazorla – 3/5

The tireless warrior of Arsenal did his job well and tried his best to cover Arteta’s flaws on the ground.

Mesut Ozil – 4/5

The German midfielder did a great job and provided several crosses. A couple of time he was even caught offside.

Alexis Sanchez – 3.5/5

Alexis Sanchez too was great alongside Mesut Ozil and worked very hard to launch attacks.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 2.5/5

A rare bad day at the office for the English winger. He was not up to the mark and failed to leave any impact.

Olivier Giroud – 1.5/5

Olivier Giroud started the match ahead of Theo Walcott up front and a lot was expected from the French star. But Giroud conceded to yellow and was sent off. The red card played a huge role in Arsenal’s crest fall.

Francis Coquelin – 3/5

As usual Coquelin did a good job after replacing Mikel Arteta in the second half. Since Coquelin’s arrival, the midfield looked composed and compact.

Joel Campbell – 1/5

The youngster failed to impress once again at the big stage as he was practically useless on the pitch.

Theo Walcott – 4/5

Star of the game for sure Theor Walcott came in after Olivier Giroud was sent off. Walcott scored the consolation goal and save Arsenal’s face somewhat.
