UEFA Champions League round up – Liverpool knocked out after Gerrard heroics, Real Madrid and Arsenal cruise to knock out stage

On Tuesday night, group A-D matches of UEFA Champions League were wrapped up and it was a disappointing day for Brendon Rogers as Liverpool failed to qualify for the round 16 of the Champions League.

Let us look at all the happenings from Tuesday night’s Champions League fixtures result.

Group A

Olympiacos beats Malmo 4-2 to Qualify to the Europa League's final 32! [Videos]

Italian club Juventus held Atletico Madrid at 0-0 in Turin and successfully qualified for the next round from Group A. Meanwhile, Greek side Olympiakos qualified for the Europa League by defeating Malmo 4-2, Alejandro Dominguez, Ibrahim Afellay, David Fuster and Kostas Mitroglou scored for Greek club.

Group B

Liverpool was held at a 1-1 draw by FC Basel at Anfield Stadium, and the Reds failed to qualify for the next round of UEFA Champions League. Fabian Frei scored in the first half to give Swiss side the lead, the Reds equalised after skipper Steven Gerrard scored but couldn’t qualify for the next round and will now play in Europa League after Christmas.

Real Madrid players celebrate after beating Ludogorets Razgrad 4-0, their 19th win in a row, a new Spanish record.

Real Madrid won their 19th consecutive game of the season by defeating Ludogorets by 4-0 and finished on the top of the group. Alvaro Medran, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alvaro Arbeloa and Gareth Bale scored for Madrid.

Group C

Monaco advances to UCL knockout round with 2-0 win over Zenit

German club Bayern Leverkusen also qualified for the next round from group C after a 0-0 draw with Benfica.  The 2 goals from Aymen Abdennour and Fabinho comfortably secured Monaco the top position of the group by defeating Zenith on Tuesday. Andre Villas-Boas are now dropped to Europa League.

Group D

At the double: Aaron Ramsey scored twice for Arsenal in their 4-1 win at Galatasaray

It was a day of stunning goals in Istanbul, Aaron Ramsey and Lukas Podolski both scored twice to give the Gunners a 4-1 victory against the Galatasaray. Borussia Dortmund also qualified for the knock out stages of the Champions League as group D winners; the German side drew 1-1 with Anderlecht.
