The Qualifying round of the UEFA Euro 2016 has seen some close matches and some of the groups are still poised for a final day finish. But many teams have already qualified for the final tournament even as two more games are left in the Qualifying round. In this article, we will take a look at all the results of the games played on the 8th of September.

Belarus 2-0 Luxembourg

This Group C encounter between two teams who are already out of the group stage saw the home team Belarus take all three points. This is just their second victory thanks to a brace from M Gordeychuk. Luxembourg is now 5th on the table with just one win and one draw in the group stage.

England 2-0 Switzerland

England continued their undefeated streak in group E with a 2-0 victory over Switzerland. Harry Kane opened the scoring for the English while Rooney found the net from the spot in the closing stages. The England skipper broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time goal scorer’s record for England with his goal against Switzerland. The group is still open as Switzerland should fight with two other countries for two qualifying spots.

FYR Macedonia 0-1 Spain

An early goal from Juan Mata was enough to settle this Group C encounter. Macedonia has just won a single game in the qualifiers and is in the last position in the group. Spain has already qualified from the group and this win gave them a two-point lead over second placed Slovakia.

Liechtenstein 0-7 Russia

Liechtenstein had a night to forget at home against Russia as they let 7 goals past in this Group G game. A Dzyuba scored a brace on either side of the break as Russia humiliated Liechtenstein who is already eliminated from the tournament. Russia even after the victory is just 2 points ahead of third-placed Sweden and will need another victory to stay in the hunt.

Lithuania 2-1 San Marino

San Marino looked like nicking a point from this Group E fixture against Lithuania, but a late strike from L Spalvis gave the home team all three points. San Marino failed to win even a single game in the group and are already eliminated. Lithuania kept their slim chances alive with this victory.

Moldova 0-2 Montenegro

Montenegro took three crucial points from this Group G game against Moldova on Tuesday. S Savic and P Race were on target for Montenegro and with this victory, they are just a point behind Sweden in 3rd place. Moldova has just two points from 8 games and is eliminated already.

Slovakia 0-0 Ukraine

This game between two teams who have already qualified for the final tournament from Group C, ended in a goalless draw at the Stadion Pod Dubnom in Zilina. Ukraine lost a chance to take the 2nd spot from Slovakia in the Group and now lie third just 2 points behind the hosts.

Slovenia 1-0 Estonia

Slovenia won a very important game at home against Estonia as both teams are still in the race for qualification. This victory puts the hosts in the third place in Group E just 2 points ahead of Estonia. R Beric scored the only goal in the game. Estonia has a mountain to climb as their remaining games are against the top two teams in the group.

Sweden 1-4 Austria

Sweden were beaten high and dry by Group toppers Austria in this Group G fixture. The hosts lost a chance to take a leap into the second spot but are just two points behind Russia. M Hammik scored a brace for Austria who sit comfortably at the top of the table with an 8 point lead over Russia.
