There have been quite suggestions about the veteran Van Gaal getting sacked if Manchester United do not qualify for the Champions League next season. Many of you who are thinking that it must be panic times for Van Gaal, you must think again.
The man is already a legend in his own rights. League titles with 4 different teams across 3 countries, Champions League triumph, UEFA Cup success, UEFA Super Cup winning medal, Intercontinental Cup trophy, man has won almost everything that there is to be won and done it all as a manager.
Even if he fails at Old Trafford he will have plenty of tails to live on, but Manchester United must be sweating right now on their current league position and where they will eventually finish when the season is over. They cannot afford another season without Champions League football. It will harm their claims of being one of the best clubs in the world.
United fans already know that Van Gaal is a very smart and shrewd talker in the public. I will be honest and admit that, it is Van Gaal’s talking skills which have allowed him this easy start to life as the Manchester United manager. Had it been David Moyes after spending close to £130 million in the summer and languishing at 4th, poor guy Moyes would have been sacked yet again.
Van Gaal has the balls (as he likes to claim… ask Luca Toni) to go out and criticize Manchester United players and here is the best part, people will believe him as well because he has the pedigree and past history to prove it. Ever since his appointment, he has been talking up his philosophies and tactics and strategies, which is yet to be understood by any United player apart from David De Gea perhaps.
If Van Gaal gets sacked, he will turn around and claim that “the players failed to adapt to his system and style of play.” Everything will be put on the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Robin Van Persie and as I earlier said, people will believe Louis Van Gaal.
Van Gaal has used his words with utmost of care. Recall his post-match conference after the win against Cambridge in the FA Cup where he said, “I have failed to understand why United are not playing as per my philosophy. I have never faced anything like this at any of my previous clubs, it’s hard to understand.”
In his own way, he is criticizing the team’s ability to replicate his vision on the pitch. I am confident that Van Gaal is not losing sleep over how United are playing at the moment and he is ready with his Plan B if he is to get sacked by Manchester United.
It’s desperation time for United and not Van Gaal thus United must stick with him even if they fail to finish in top 4 this season. They cannot go around and fire managers season after season. Van Gaal must be given 1-2 seasons more to try and work his philosophy at Old Trafford. Having said that, I will repeat myself and claim that it’s United who are in deep trouble not Louis Van Gaal.
