Liverpool came in to this make or break game against Blackburn fully aware of the fact a defeat would make their season a total disaster. Philippe Coutinho ensured that Liverpool remain on course to end the season with a trophy as the Brazilian scored late in the game to send Liverpool to the Semi Finals of this season’s FA Cup.

Liverpool had Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard and Emre Can missing this game due to the recent flurry of red cards. Manager Brendan Rodgers decided to go with a 4-3-2-1 formation which saw Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Glenn Johnson in defense while Daniel Sturridge started up front supported by Phillipe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling from the midfield.

This was a proper FA Cup tie with the minnows Blackburn causing troubles for the fancied side on every possible opportunity they could. Liverpool had the lion share of the possession but without any end product to it.

Liverpool fans were starting to get a bit anxious as they did not see a goal being scored by their players and the game seemed more and more likely primed for an upset but all those nerves were settled by Coutinho on the 68’ minute mark as the talented Brazilian played a neat one-two in the edge one-two with Henderson before bursting into the box from the right hand side and scoring on the far side.

The goal came as a fair result for the travelling side who looked more of a threat going forward in the second half. Raheem Sterling looked determined to do well on the night with a flawless performance and was at heart of everything Liverpool did well in the game.

Blackburn sent their strikers with 10 minutes remaining in the tie but Liverpool’s defense held on to book a place in the FA Cup Semi Finals at Wembley, where they will face Aston Villa for a place in the final.
