After making a Villarreal defender look foolish, Lionel Messi had one more victim on Saturday in the win over Villarreal in La Liga. The Argentine scored his second to make it 4-1 late in the match, and it came off a cheeky panenka penalty kick.
Check out this classy chipped effort:
You only do that if you are confident, and we all know Messi is. It’s like a windmill dunk in basketball or going for a one-handed catch in football when you could have used two. If you don’t execute, you look like an idiot.
Messi executed perfectly, and it was the goalkeeper who was left looking silly.
Neymar and Luis Suarez also struck in a 4-1 victory over Villarreal that increased the combined goal tally of Barcelona’s trio of star strikers to 102 goals in the campaign.
Barcelona’s fifth straight win gave then three more points than Madrid before the latter visited relegated Granada later on Saturday.
Barca still lead Real Madrid at the top of the table courtesy of their superior head-to-head record, but Zinedine Zidane’s side have a game in hand and need just two wins and a draw from their remaining three games to clinch a first title since 2012.
