Pogba made his £89million Old Trafford return earlier this month after one of the longest and most complicated transfer sagas in history.
His agent Mino Raiola, who reportedly earned upwards of £18m as part of the deal, has shed some light over why the move was so drawn out.
Raiola says Real Madrid were among a batch of clubs attempting to land Pogba but the 23-year-old only had eyes for United.
The super-agent has also revealed that he never talked about transfer business with Pogba during Euro 2016 and that the midfield powerhouse needed time to get over his disappointment of France’s heartbreak in the final.
Raiola told Telefoot: “Zidane wanted him at Real Madrid but there were another five or six clubs following him as well.
“Manchester United are now a lot stronger thanks to him, whilst Real Madrid are not.
“I never spoke about the transfer market with Pogba whilst he was playing at the European Championship, and then he went on holiday because he was very disappointed.
“It was only when I arrived in Miami was it when things were put in motion.
“He explained to me what he wanted. Manchester is his home.”
Pogba’s last display in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Hull City received a mixed reception from supporters.
The Frenchman was, once again, a constant presence in the heart of Man United’s midfield, charging around the pitch, trying to force the issue against a rigid side. However, this rampaging attitude occasionally led to the 23-year-old making a poor decision on the ball.
Some United fans admired Pogba’s effervescence against Hull, and were quick to praise the midfielder. Others, however, were not so complimentary.
It is a rule of thumb that a player who breaks the world transfer record receives an avalanche of scrutiny from all corners of the globe. It’s just how it works.
