Arsene Wenger praised Mesut Ozil as the “complete player” before comparing the German maestro to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.

Ozil himself scored one and assisted the other one with the Arsenal manager insisting the Germany international is world class after Ozil took his assists tally to a staggering 16 for this campaign.

When asked whether Ozil is the best player in the Premier League right now, Wenger answered. “Look at the numbers. On the assists they speak for him.”

“He has become a complete sensational football player. I am very, very happy with his performances. He is one of the best in Europe certainly. In his position, he is sensational.

“Bergkamp was more goalscorer than him and he was more of an assists man but now he becomes more of a goalscorer so they really are comparable.

“He has remarkable technical quality and something that I enjoy very much is the timing of his passes. If you think in the stand give the ball now, it is now. You have not finished your thinking and the ball has gone has gone already. Wenger was amazed to see the consistency Ozil produces.

“And that is somebody who thinks always as the song leader with the right tone and that is something difficult to achieve as decision you have to make at so quick.

“Mesut was the focal point to our team because we had a new midfield again and he’s a guy who gives reassurance with his technical security and fluidity. He gives you slowly confidence.

“I have seen a few good games from Mesut. What is important is that he convinces everybody he is not just a very talented player but he is working hard for the team and he has added scoring goals to assists. He is a complete player.

“I have not seen many of that quality. I don’t like to compare players but he is an exceptional player and you have to give me credit. I was always defending that point of view.”

Arsenal have now returned to the top spot while Petr Cech also set a new Premier League clean sheet record as he reached 170 shut outs last night.

“He can be very proud of that as it’s a remarkable achievement and people don’t realise how much commitment is behind all that and how much focus and consistency in his attitude and on top of that he’s a remarkably consistent goalkeeper,” Wenger further said.

“We are top but whether you are one point in front or one point behind is not so important. It’s more the consistency of our results and that we grow stronger as a team.”

This calendar year, the Gunners have won more points than any other team as they have taken 81 points from 38 matches while Manchester City the next best with 71 points from 37 with the final game of 2015 is next at Leicester on Tuesday.

Despite the statistics and numbers looking very impressive, there is only one thing which counts most this term which is whether Arsenal can finally win the Premier League title.
