Arsene Wenger discusses the good run for Leicester but aims to pip them to title

Arsene Wenger has praised Leicester City for its good run in the Premier league and told that it augurs well for the spirit of world football.

Leicester are currently on top of the table after 16 games and take pride in holding a two point advantage over nearest rival Arsenal.

The Arsenal manager was full of praise for Claudio Ranieri and his team for their excellent performance so far.

The team has lost only once this season to Arsenal by a margin 5-2 in September.

Wenger believes that their dream run in this season has a positive impact to football.

“Of course it is good for English football,” he said.

“Not only for English football, it’s good for everybody in football all over the world to see teams who are not on the biggest budget at the

start, that they can compete as well.

“I always took them seriously as title contenders but when we won 5-2 over there, nobody took our performance seriously.

“They just thought it was normal that we won at Leicester, but ever since you have been able to see that it was a great result and a great performance on the day.”

Considering the fact that the foxes miraculously fought their way out of relegation last season, people still hadn’t realized that they could perform well

consistently.

The foxes however proved everyone wrong with their attacking football and they will be at the top of the table for at least another week.

Leicester City will be travelling to Goodison Park on Saturday where they have the chance to open up a 5-point lead if they win it.

Gunners are facing Manchester City at Emirates on Monday and they will be keen to narrow the gap with a win.

Wenger insists that at no point of time did he want to take Leicester lightly, unlike others who were waiting for the foxes to fail.

This confirms the fact that spending an indefinite amount of money to buy star players does not generalize to guarantee success and

their rise to the top stands as a testament to other clubs to rethink about their selection process and money spending ventures.
