Slaven Bilic has done a great job with the Hammers this season and will be looking to finish in the top half of the table at the end of the season. But they will be aspiring to play in Europe next season and are already building up a strong squad.

Leeds United defender Sam Byram has officially completed a move to West Ham United the official website of the Premier Club announced today.

The 22 year old has penned out a four and a half year contract at the Upton Park from Leeds United in a transfer fee that is un-disclosed. However the fee is reported to be in the region of £3.7 million.

Byram was one of the star players in the Leeds side and was a transfer target for Premier League sides like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, but will now fight for a first team spot under Slaven Bilic for West Ham.

It was belived that Chelsea, United and Arsenal are short on the full-back department and thus were keen to add Byram to their squad. While it is a lost opportunity for Premier League giants, it is a great boost for West Ham and their squad.

Byram spoke to media saying, “I’m unbelievably proud and happy to join a club as big as this,” Byram told the club’s official website.

“I’m just looking forward to what the future holds and hopefully I can achieve things with the team going forward.”

The 22-year-old now has his sights set firmly on making an impact with the Irons.

“It’s a childhood dream of mine to play in the Premier League, so to have the chance to get into a team like this and I just want to get my head down, work hard and hopefully get a chance,” Byram added.

“I spoke to the manager and he is one of the main reasons which attracted me to West Ham. I think he’s done unbelievably well with his team so far, so I’m really looking forward to working with him and his staff.

“My uncle and my cousin are big West Ham fans. It’s nice to have them down here and they’ll help me settle.

Byram, who can also play in a more advanced role on the right wing, came through the youth ranks at Elland Road to make his debut in the 2012/2013 campaign.

He will surely help the Hammers have a shot at European football next season. Is Byram a good signing by Slaven Bilic?
