According to recent reports, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has now stated that the Premier League outfit are on the verge of completing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Havard Nordtveit. The 25-year-old superstar has a contract at Gladbach which will expire at the end of the current campaign and was possibly heading back to his former club Arsenal before the Hammers stepped in and prevented that move from going through.
The Norway international is at present the skipper of Monchengladbach and can play both in a holding midfield role and as a central defender as well, due to his strong and aggressive tackling style.
Nordtveit spent his early days with Norweigan outfit Haugesund before he joined the Gunners, with whom he remained for three seasons though he never got a chance to represent the first team. However, now he has a chance to make a return to England and impress once again.
In his recent interview, talking about the deal Bilic said, “I can only say that of course we are monitoring the player – he is a really good player.”
“He is out of contract. Many clubs are interested in him – almost all of the Bundesliga want him to stay there because he is a great professional, great player and he is the captain of Borussia Monchengladbach.”
“They are a big club, they were in the Champions League with Man City last season. It is not only Bundesliga clubs but many clubs in England we have heard want him as well. We are also interested in him.”
If the move does indeed go through, the player will be a great asset to the London-based side, who have been performing decently this term. They are currently in 5th place with 49 points from 29 games and will be hoping to secure a top 4 finish.
