Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could be shown the exit soon, claim reports. According to Sky sources, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for replacements to step into Mignolet’s shoes. It is believed that the Liverpool boss is already targeting a couple of goalkeepers in the German league.
Mignolet landed at Anfield in the year, 2013 from Sunderland. He has made a total of 111 appearances for the Reds. However, the 27-year-old hasn’t been any special at the club. His mediocrity has become a topic of debate now. Former Liverpool keeper Bruce Grobbelaar criticized Mignolet saying,
“I’ve got a goalkeeper in Canada, a 24-year-old, who does this better than Mignolet does and is just as good of a shot stopper. He is more of a package than Mignolet is.’’
Bruce claims that Mignolet isn’t worthy of playing for the Merseyside team as he lacks the standard of play. Bruce Grobbelaar spent 13 long years at Anfield and says that he has better goalies at Ottawa Fury, where he is currently a coach. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said,
“I’ve had my criticism of Mignolet for two or three years, I even got pulled in and asked not to criticise him so openly.”
According to Grobbelaar, a goalkeeper should be a perfect package of wit and skills. A goalkeeper should be an overall package where he is good at his feet, comes out and excels at commanding the area, says the former Liverpool goalkeeper. Mignolet is a a great shot stopper says Grobbelaar but he is not a perfect package. And when you present a club as massive as Liverpool, one expects you to be nothing but perfect, which Mignolet isn’t.
He also added that Klopp is set to replace Mignolet in time and is already out in the market looking for potential signings. Victor Valdes, the Barcelona ace and Manchester United flop, was considered to be linked with Klopp for the goalie’s spot. Ter Stegen and Timo Horn. Klopp has made signing Mignolet’s replacement a priority. Seems it’s time for the club to bid him adieu.
