The whole golf fraternity in India as well as in Asia has been overwhelmed by the history, Anirban Lahiri created in the PGA championship on Monday at the Whistling Strait, America. Lahiri, while taking a rest after he finished at the joint fifth position, the best ever by an Indian golfer, had to pick up a lot of phones from his golfer friends in India. All the friends were busy in offering him congratulation for the new mark Lahiri set in the fourth and the final major of the season. Rahil Gangji, a leading Indian golfer from Kolkata who has been closest friend of Lahiri, speaking on the occasion, informed he, after having congratulated Lahiri, had already asked him to offer a gala party when the golfer would return to Kolkata within next couple of weeks. Gangji said, “Initially, it was being highly difficult for me to get him over the phone. The phone was coming engaged continuously. Then I caught him finally and asked about the party. Anirban has promised me that he must organize a gala party once he returns to Kolkata” Lahiri whose world ranking jumped to 38 after this superb show, lives in Bengaluru but, stays at Ganji’s house generally when he is in Kolkata. Gangji while speaking about Lahiri’s immaculate show in the PGA championship, said, “I can remember one funny incident when Lahiri, playing in a tournament in Kolkata a couple of years ago, became hungry for the beef. I tried to stop him as the tournament was going on. But Lahiri was adamant and forced me to bring beef kabab on the day before his play. And the aftermath was obvious as I was worried. Lahiri could not reach Royal Calcutta Golf Cup course from my home at Salt Lake!” Gangji clarified that he was sure that one day Lahiri would excel in the game. The reason according to Gangji, Lahiri had a tremendous tenacity and his working capacity is exceptional.
Almost the same opinion has been divulged by Asia’s one of the leading golfers Jeev Milkha Singh. The son of legendary athlete Milkha Singh was the last Indian golfer who set a record in the PGA championship with the ninth position. Jeev Milkha Singh has commented, “I had never doubted on Lahiri’s talent. So, having earned the fifth position in PGA he got the reward of his talent and dedication. And I believe Lahiri will prosper a lot more in the coming days.”
Gaganjeet Bhullar, another leading Indian golfer has also been highly elated with his friend’s stunning show which will help Lahiri to break into the Rest of World team for the President’s Cup golf tournament to be held in September. Bhullar said, “Lahiri increased the pride of Asian golf. I believe the sports fraternity will be looking forward towards the golf in India in near future.”
