India conceded a last minute goal against Germany in their opening match of the 2014 Champions Trophy at Bhuvneshwar today. Both of the teams missed a lot of chances. The match was watched by a full capacity crowd and cheered for each shot hit by the home team and each goal saved by goalkeeper.

In the first quarter Akashdeep missed a chance in the 3rd minute when he tried to give a pass to the player in the ‘D’. In the 7th minute Germany earned a penalty corner, shot well but was well saved by the Indian goalkeeper. Germany was awarded another penalty corner 15 seconds later; that effort was also foiled by Indian goalkeeper. In the 8th minute Germany was given a penalty stroke, appealed by Indian captain for a review. Fortunately that was turned down.

In the 13th minute India got a penalty corner after asking for a review and but Raghunath was not able to penetrate the German goalkeeper. In the second quarter India began on good note but was not able convert chance into goal. Indian goalkeeper, Sreejesh saved two chances in 10: 52 and 12: 40 minute. It was a great performance by the Indian goalkeeper as he saved the 2 chances with one handed push off the goal post. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 0-0.

In the third quarter Indian goalkeeper Sreejesh saved another goal in 3 minute and 23 second. In 9th minute and 25 seconds India tried to score a goal but the German goalkeeper was alert to avoid the risk. In 11 minute and 15 seconds and again in 12 minute 5 seconds Sreejesh saved two more goals.
In the fourth quarter Germany tried another goal on Sreejesh and got a penalty corner. In 2: 50 minutes Sreejesh saved another goal with left hand push. In 7th minute and 35 seconds India tried but was not able to convert the goal. In the last minute of match the lack of interception by the Indian player brought downfall for India as Germans won the match by 1-0. 

India played very well in the match but they missed many opportunities. Their second match will be against Argentina which again a tough match.
