Australia defeated India by 2-1 in the second hockey Test at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai International Stadium, Raipur just a few moments ago. It was a disappointing performance by the Indian team who were outplayed in the 3rd and 4th quarter.
In the first quarter, Australia began off to a great start in the very first minute with an attacking move which was well saved by P Sreejesh. There was no action from either team till the next few minutes. In the 8th minute, SV Sunil made an extraordinary effort in the D and almost beat the goalkeeper but could not take the reverse flick. In the 10th minute, India made another attacking move which was well saved by the Australian goalkeeper. In the 14th minute Australia attacked which was well saved by P Sreejesh. At the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 0-0.
In the 2nd quarter, Australia earned the first penalty corner in the 5th minute which was well saved by P Sreejesh. In the 8th minute, Kothajit Singh gave a pass from left wing to Devinder Walmki who deflected into the goal to give India a 1-0 lead. In the 13th minute Australia earned one more penalty corner and Ragunath deflected the effort with a stick running half through D. At the end of 2nd quarter India led 1-0.
In the 3rd quarter, Australia attacked more and more. In the 5th minute, a reverse flick was hit from the D and Circello deflected the hit wide of the goal post. The Australian team put pressure on the Indian defense for which India defended with a lot of resolves. At the end of 3rd quarter, India led 1-0.
In the 4th quarter, Australia began off to a great start as a pass from Olive grave who deflected into a goal by Wheaton to equalize the score at 1-1. In the next minute, Zwlyzki scored an excellent field goal to give Australia a 2-1 lead. The Indian team tried to come back into the match, but Australia defended. At the end of quarter, Australia won the match 2-1.
With this win, Australia leads the series 1-0 with one more match to be played tomorrow in the same stadium.
