Defending Champion Delhi beat UP Wizards 2-1 in third-fourth place playoff match in Hockey India League (HIL) match at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi few minutes ago. It was a consolation performance by Delhi who played good hockey after failing to enter finals yesterday.

In the first quarter UP wizards began off to a good start. In 1.04 minute UP wizards hit shot at the goal that was well saved by Delhi goalkeeper. In 4.44 minute Delhi earned a penalty corner the shot was save but soon in 4.55 they earned another penalty corner from which they again did not succeed. In 5.12 minute Delhi‘s Rupinder Pal Singh entered into the “D” and scored the goal to give Delhi a 1-0 lead. In the 9th minute Delhi hit a good shot that was well saved by P Sreejesh. In 11.30 minute UP Wizards made an excellent attempt but the hit went wide off the right of goal post. In the 12 minute P Sreejesh made another excellent save. At the end of first quarter it was 1-0 in favor of Delhi.

The second quarter also began well for UP Wizards. They put the pressure on the Delhi Wave rider’s defense. UP wizards levelled the score at 1-1 when Nikhil Thimmaya hitting from the “D” converted into a goal.  In the 13th minute UP wizards goalkeeper P Sreejesh made another excellent save. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 1-1.

The 3rd quarter began well for Delhi. In the first minute itself Delhi Wave riders missed a chance of converting a goal. In the 3rd minute Delhi earned a penalty corner. Delhi asked for a review for the penalty corner but the umpire decision was long corner. They earned another penalty corner but missed a chance. In the 9th minute UP Wizards missed a chance of scoring a goal. In the 10th minute P Sreejesh made another excellent save. In the 13th minute Delhi goalkeeper made a save. In the 14th minute P Sreejesh made another excellent save. At the end of 3rd quarter the score remained 1-1.

In the fourth quarter UP Wizards missed the first chance in 3.29 minute. In 4.31 minute Delhi scored the 2nd goal when Sardar Singh gave the pass to Talwander that passed through to Simon Child and to Yuvraj Walmiki who just tapped the ball into the goal. In 5.24 minute UP wizards striker hit the shot wide. In 7.59 minute P Sreejesh made an excellent save. Sreejesh made two excellent saves in 11.40 minute and 13.40 minutes. Last few minutes UP made frantic efforts but finally Delhi won the match by 2-1.
