Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Wizards played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Major Dhyan Chand stadium at New Delhi this evening. Delhi Waveriders was trailing 2-0 but fought back well to lead 3-2 in fourth quarter but UP came back and leveled in last 8th minute of the match. It was a competetivehockey match played by both teams.

In the first quarter Delhi started off to a great start dominating the game from the start. Uttar Pradesh also played some good hockey. Both had some chances but were not able to convert chances into goals. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.

The second quarter began well for Uttar Pradesh Wizards. In 4.15 minute UP wizards earned a penalty corner. Ragunath converted the penalty corner into a goal to give Uttar Pradesh Wizards 1-0 lead. In 7.20 Minute Delhi Wave riders hit a powerful hit but was well saved by goal keeper P Sreejesh. In 13.10 minute UP Wizards missed another chance. In 13.55 minute UP Wizards missed a chance again. At the end of second quarter it was 1-0 in favor of UP Wizards.

The third quarter saw most aggressive hockey of the match. In the 1st minute P Sreejesh made another excellent save. In 3rd minute Delhi goalkeeper made a good save. In 3.43 minute Pradeep More gave a pass to Hertzberg who converted that into a goal to give UP Wizards a 2-0 lead. In 4th minute and 6th minute P Sreejesh made two excellent saves. In the 7th minute Delhi missed a chance of a field goal. In the 8th minute Delhi tried to hit a shot but was well defended by Rupinder Pal Singh. In the 10th minute P Sreejesh made another excellent save. In 12.57 minute Uttar Pradesh earned a penalty corner but the shot was hit well over the goal post.  Between 13.58 and 14.36 minutes Delhi earned 3 penalty corners but Hayward converted only the third penalty corner into goal to reduce the margin to 2-1.

In the 4th quarter both of the teams played some fast paced hockey. Delhi in particular was highly aggressive. Uttar Pradesh played with 10 men because of yellow card to UP Wizards captain. In 5.07 minute Matt Ghodes hit a powerful stroke to level the score at 2-2. In 6.06 minute Delhi Wave riders hit a shot, saved by P Sreejesh, that was again hit as a reverse flicked shot by Simon Child to convert into  a goal to give Delhi Wave riders a 3-2 lead. UP Wizards asked for a review but the umpire decision stood as a goal. In 7.53 UP wizards earned a penalty corner and Ragunath converted the corner into a goal to level the score at 3-3. In the 11th minute Delhi Wave riders missed a chance. After that Delhi Wave riders made two aggressive moves, all of them were saved by P Sreejesh. Another aggressive move was made by UP wizards but was well saved by Delhi goalkeeper. Thus the match ended in 3-3 draw.

With this UP wizards are the second and Delhi in fourth place in points tally. Semi final matches will be decided after tommrow’s match between Punjab and Mumbai.
