India lose to Malasysia in their 3rd group match at the 24th Azlan Shah tournament played at Ipoh, Malaysia on Wednesday. It was again a disappointing lose for the Indians they played some good hockey but lost out on crucial moments.

In the first quarter India began well with the first attempt made by India in the 4th minute when Gurbaj’s cross from right-flank went to Akashdeep who was not able to trap the ball. Then both the teams tried to score goals but were not able to succeed. At the end of first quarter it was 0-0.

The second quarter began well for the hosts as they earned their first penalty corner in the 2nd minute. The penalty corner was converted into the goal by Faizal Sairi to the right of net to give Malaysia a 1-0 lead.  Malaysia then went on to full attack mode when Faizal Sairi made an excellent move but was well saved by Sreejesh. India earned their first penalty corner in the 4th minute. Rupinder took the drag-flick and was converted into the goal which was flicked to the right of the centre to level the things at 1-1. In the 6th minute Malaysia earned two penalty corner’s in succession but both chances were wasted. India then attacked the Malaysian but did not convert the chances into goal. At the end of 2nd quarter it was 1-1.

In the 3rd quarter India started off well in the 2nd minute Manpreet and Nikkin combo but the chance was wasted. In the 5th minute Malaysia took a 2-1 lead when Haziq marched straight and pushed the ball into net. In the 8th minute India earned their second penalty corner but failed to convert the chance into goal. At the end of 3rd quarter it was 2-1 in favor of Malaysia.

In the fourth quarter India began off well by earning a penalty corner in the 1st minute itself. In the next minute India earned another penalty corner but was not able to trap the ball properly. In the 6th minute India earned another penalty corner. Rupinder Pal Singh converted the penalty corner into a goal to equalize the score at 2-2. In the last 2 minutes Malaysia scored the winner when Sharun Abdullah hit a good shot. India lost the match 2-3.

With this loss India are out of contention for the finals. In the next India will play Canada.
