The Indian under 21 hockey team defeated New Zealand 3-0 in their second match of Volvo International tournament played at Breda, Holland last night. It was a dominating performance by team India who did not give a chance to the Kiwi team.

The first half started on an intense note with both teams as they fought hard to keep the pressure on the opponents. The Indian team continued their attacking approach of counter attacks which kept the Kiwis busy in their half.

The Indian team earned their first penalty corner of the match in the 6th minute and penalty corner was converted into a goal to give India 1-0 lead. The Indian team attacked the Kiwi defense on regular ocassion. In the 29th minute Simranjeet scored a brilliant field goal to give India a 2-0 lead. At the end of first half India led 2-0.

In the second half both teams stepped onto the field with more aggression and kept on the struggle to score goals. The Indian team managed to keep possession. In the 41st minute India earned another penalty corner and penalty corner was converted into a goal by Harmanpreet Singh to give India 3-0 lead.  The Black sticks tried to comeback into the match but the Indian team was upto to the task. India won their second successive match as they defeated Germany 3-0 in their first match. The Indian under 21 team has performed brilliantly so far in the tournament.

In the women’s section India lost to Holland by 0-1 but it was a good performance by the Indian women’s team. The Indian women’s team will next play Germany.
